What is a Gross Misdemeanor?


Gross Misdemeanors are the most serious of misdemeanors, they carried a higher level of punishment and fines but are a less than a felony, these are crimes that can be punished by up to a year of jail and/or a $5,000 fine, only adults can be charged with this class of crime.

DUI, Reckless driving, Driving while license suspended first and second degree, Assault 4, Criminal trespass first degree and MIP are common gross misdemeanor charges.  Gross Misdemeanors can be charged in a county superior court or district court, and also in municipal courts.
